Compound Fracture Punch

On the occasion of our 50th anniversary, we reprinted our 20 favorite reader-submitted recipes, including this one from 1951, “origin and name unknown.”

2 cups fresh lemon juice
2 cups fresh orange juice
1 cup white Curaçao
4 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar
an 8-ounce jar maraschino cherries, drained
two 750-ml. bottles of brandy
two 750-ml. bottles of Champagne, chillled

In a large bowl stir together the juices, the Curaçao, the confectioner’s sugar, and the cherries and let the mixture stand, covered and chilled, overnight. Stir in the brandy and the Champagne. Makes about 18 cups.
