First Taste: Bar Blanc

01.15.08
Given its name, it's not surprising that just about everything in this long, luxe lozenge of a room—from chairs to banquettes to candles—is white. The effect is sleek enough that you could be forgiven for thinking you had strolled into a lounge rather than a restaurant. The menu has a bit of that glossy international air, too, with everything from a hearty lamb shoulder lasagna to dainty tuna sashimi with marinated elf mushrooms to an excellent, classically French rabbit-and-sweetbread salad. The overall effect is a bit safe (as in "give 'em a bit of everything"), but when the service becomes more sure-footed, I'm betting this place will become a West Village favorite.
