Cocktail of the Week: Indy Car

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. We were looking for a drink that you could stir clockwise to balance all those left-hand turns you’ll be watching during the Indianapolis 500 on May 24, but over a batch of Sidecars, inspiration struck. Seagram’s vodka was made in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, until the brand was sold to Infinium Spirits in 2005. Last year, Infinium contracted with Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana (LDI) to produce the vodka there again. If you use Angostura orange bitters in this cocktail, you’ll really be drinking Indy: Angostura owns LDI.

In a shaker 3/4 full of ice, combine 1 1/2 oz vodka, 1 oz Cointreau or other triple sec, 1 oz lemon juice, 2 dashes orange bitters (or more to taste). Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. For the garnish, remove the fruit and pith from an orange slice or lemon slice, leaving the rind whole. If it looks like a tire, you may proceed out of the pits.
