Frank Langella’s Oscar nomination comes for his portrayal of former President Richard Nixon in the film Frost/Nixon. Nixon’s favorite drink was the Mai Tai, a festive rum cocktail that gained popularity in Polynesian-style restaurants during the mid-20th century. The addition of Pimm’s No. 1 Cup, an English gin-based beverage with the subtle flavors of citrus and spice, is a nod to Sir David Frost, whose famous interview with Nixon was the basis for the movie.

1/4 lime, cut into 2 pieces
1 mint sprig
2 tsp Demerara sugar such as Sugar in the Raw
1 1/2 oz (3 Tbsp) golden rum
1/2 oz (1 Tbsp) Pimm’s No. 1 Cup
1/3 cup fresh orange juice

• Using a muddler or a long-handled spoon, muddle lime and mint with sugar in a cocktail shaker.
• Add rum, Pimm’s, and orange juice and fill shaker with ice cubes. Shake for 10 seconds, then strain into a 12-oz glass filled with ice cubes.
