Alec moved to Paris 20 years ago to be an editor of Fairchild Publications, fudging the fact the he spoke lousy French. Six years ago, he was named European correspondent for Gourmet. His book Hungry for Paris, about dining in the French capital, was published by Random House in April. He is now fluent in the language but still doesn’t care much for Jerry Lewis.
