What’s for Dinner?

11.03.06

Test kitchen work is mythical stuff. Shedding light on our corner of the magazine is not an easy task. Many of the rumors are true, some are not. We all work out to stay skinny: myth. We’re all skinny: myth. We love to eat everything: myth. We each eat an average of 3000+ calories daily: truth. We all skip dinner: myth. Here’s what each of us had for dinner last night:

Andrea - "Greek yogurt with raspberry jam and a fizzy water and one plum."

Lillian - "Rice-cooker congee with lots of tiny pickles… Chinese pickles."

Ruth - "Watercress salad, a can of Spanish tuna in olive oil, some grapes and crusty bread."

Gina - "Grilled flank steak with roasted potatoes and caramelized carrots and some creamed spinach. A merlot/cab blend."

Paul - "A big Manhattan. Then, spaghetti with tomato-wine sauce and salad. Oh, and a bottle of Cotes du Rhone."

Ian - "A slice of homemade sourdough toast topped with coconut pudding. 3 glasses of white wine."

Kemp - "Green Swiss chard cooked with onions and currants (fried until puffy), and some Kalamata olives all tossed with spaghetti, then topped with bread crumbs, one head’s worth of fried garlic chips and feta, with olive oil for lubrication."

Melissa - "Lettuce, cucumber, grape-tomato salad with feta and a glass of water."

Maggie - "I didn’t feel well, so I only had 3 Oreos. But normally it’s cereal."

Zanne - "Cheese fondue and apple slaw. A couple of Whoppers, a small Snickers bar, some M&Ms and some Dots and a small package of chocolate-covered Sunmaid raisins for dessert."

Alan - "Left-over spice encrusted top round fajitas and a warm Victory pilsner."

Alexis - "Chicken vegetable soup with toasted bread and 2 glasses Rosé. Then lemon verbena poached pears with store-bought pistachio gelato."

Shelley - "Frisee salad with lardons, shallots and blue cheese. A few glasses of sauvignon blanc."
