Cocktail of the Week: Queens Cocktail

08.31.09

The U.S. Open begins on August 31 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, the world’s largest public tennis facility. The borough may be somewhat overshadowed by its more famous neighbors to the west, but its cocktail deserves more attention. It may not be a Manhattan, but it’s at least as good as a Bronx (a perfect Martini with orange juice). The Brooklyn is also good, but one of its ingredients, Amer Picon, is all but impossible to find. As for the Staten Island Cocktail, the less said the better.

In a mixing glass, muddle a slice of pineapple with 1 1/2 oz gin. Add ice, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth, 1/2 ounce dry vermouth and shake. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
