How to Cure a Hangover

continued (page 2 of 2)

Do any of these things work? Of course that depends on your definition of “work.” Nothing will get rid of all your hangover symptoms, but addressing the physiological indignities—dehydration, low blood sugar, headache—will certainly help. It’s best to do so in a way that doesn’t gross you out or delay the inevitable (ingesting more alcohol definitely mitigates a hangover, but only until its effects begin to wear off; then you’re back in the same rocky boat). Actually, Smothers has an even better suggestion: “Don’t be a dumb ass and drink too much.” Amen, sister. Now hush up, and pass those biscuits.

James Rodewald started tending bar in college, never had a hangover until he was a reporter at Sports Illustrated, and always chose quality over quantity during his time as drinks editor at Gourmet magazine.
