Ruth’s Mother’s Recipes: Shrimp in Beer

Here’s one of my mother’s very favorite dishes. She was a person who prided herself on the ability to get dinner on the table in five minutes flat, so it’s easy to see why she was so fond of it:
  • 1 lb shrimp in shell
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 6 allspice berries
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 cup beer
  • Combine ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring occasionally, two minutes.
  • Serve with melted butter.
