Vodka, cranberry juice, and lime are also the ingredients in the Cape Codder, the Rangoon Ruby, and, of course, that quintessential ’80s cocktail, the Cosmopolitan. Why did the Cosmopolitian become a cultural phenomenon while The Red Carpet name disappeared not long after being rolled out? It’s either because the world is unfair or because this drink was ahead of its time. As helpful as ratios are, we find actual measurements more useful: Try substituting the word ounce for “part” below.

Into a bar glass half full of cracked ice, pour 2 parts vodka, 1 part unsweetened, full-strength cranberry juice, and 1 teaspoon lime juice. Shake and serve in a chilled cocktail glass.
