Yip Pip Cocktail

August 1952
It’s hard not to view this recipe as the beginning of the end. After all, it’s essentially a vodka Martini, even if it is intriguingly adorned. The salt may initially seem strange—okay, it is strange—but people like it on their Margarita glass, so why not? Most of the Yip Pip’s flavor comes from the vermouth, so use a good one. Dolin is worth seeking out.

Prepare glasses by packing with crushed ice, and when ready to serve, toss out the ice and drop a thin slice of cucumber and a pinch of salt into each glass. Mix six parts vodka with one of dry vermouth, stir well in cracked ice, and pour.
