First the Good News…

I'm not quite ready to rush out and pick up a bucket of their fried chicken for dinner, but hats off to KFC for removing trans fats from their menu. The move may have been inspired in part by a lawsuit launched last fall against the fast food chain by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI).

Can the likes of McDonalds and Burger King be far beyond? Michael Jacobson, CSPI's executive director points out, "If KFC, which deep-fried practically everything on its menu can make this important change, anyone can—and should."

…NOW THE BAD
It looks like all that unwanted trans fat has found a place to go. Writing at Grist, Tom Philpott notes that large companies are trying to convince the government to allow them to add the artery-clogging fats to chocolate.
